My name is Ethan Zavarella, and I am a first-year summer student joining the team at Daniel and Partners LLP! Having grown up in Niagara I am excited to return home to begin my legal career in the region.
While studying at Brock University I obtained Honours Degrees in French and Political Science, with a minor in English Language and Literature. I enjoyed the writing-heavy nature of my programs and how they helped improve my critical thinking ability. During my undergraduate studies I realized that experience outside of the classroom was just as important for my development as my academics. I volunteered as a student representative for the Political Science Department, tutored French and became an integral team member for a local winery.
Following undergrad, I worked as an employment counsellor for a non-profit in the region. I served predominately new arrivals in Canada and found it rewarding being able to help others improve their employment situations and to ease their transition to life in Canada. This role gave me my first taste of professional work life in Niagara and allowed me to reinforce my ties with many members of the local community. I knew that working as a lawyer would allow me to further strengthen those ties and lead to more opportunities to advocate on behalf of others.
While studying at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law I have sought to get involved in the community and to develop my legal skills. I competed in two moots, served as an executive for the Environmental Law Students’ Association and published various articles for a popular law school blog with an emphasis on productivity and mental health. My experience from my first year of law school reaffirmed for me that I enjoy the challenge of working with and understanding the law, and I look forward to improving and developing my understanding further at Daniel and Partners LLP.
